italy

Italy has it all. Food, culture, beautiful scenery, a fascinating history to name but a few of its many offerings. As Mark Twain said, “The Creator Made Italy from designs by Michelangelo”. On your GIA trip you will not only be seeing this side of the country, you will also be experiencing life on the ground.

In Rome, there is the chance to get involved in various sustainable farming projects, something that will be useful to people there and also teach you skills you can use when back home. Outside of the city, you will also have the chance to experience what Italian life is like in a place far less frequented by tourists.

Naples is a beautiful city full of amazing archaeological sites but not all have been maintained well. On your trip, you will have the opportunity to help with the upkeep of these famous sites. There is also the opportunity to assist with teaching English and sport to both locals and refugees, all of whom desperately need the language to have the best chance of making a new life for themselves.

Outside of volunteering, there will be cycling and pizza making in Rome plus visits to the Colosseum and the Vatican. You’ll take a trip to Florence as well as the islands off Naples such as Procida and Capri (the former being our preference).

There will also be horse riding in the Tuscan countryside, picnics and making a typically Italian meal. All this and more on your GIA trip which will have you learning about Italy from the inside out.
