South Africa is a country with a huge variety of landscapes and more to explore than you can possibly imagine. Most famous for safari, South Africa also offers lush green mountains, vineyards, white sand beaches and bustling cities.

It’s known for its meaty cuisine of braai and biltong but Cape Town is full of diverse and delicious food and drink. From here, you’ll head east to explore the infamous Garden Route - a coastal road winding through scenic towns and past whale watching hotspots.

South Africa

South Africa has a mixed economy, meaning in certain business and technological sectors, the country is considered well-developed. Unfortunately, there is a large wealth gap, resulting in many regions of poverty and inadequate resources.

On your GIA trip, you’ll be making a positive impact on the place you visit. Whether this be assisting with a charity-run surf camp for underprivileged kids, assisting in schools in a less developed area or getting involved with an animal welfare project.

Outside of your service time, you’ll get the opportunity to go on a safari (hopefully to see the Big Five!). You may try your hand at surfing, hiking, wakeboarding, ziplining or even bungee jumping. You’ll find yourself at one with nature as you explore all the Garden Route has to offer, from gorgeous forests to penguins to dolphins.
